Sunday Morning Ministries

Our church members care for each other by serving on our Sunday morning team of acolytes, altar servers, lay readers, chalice bearers, lectors, altar guild members, coffee servers, ushers, choristers, and Sunday school teachers and helpers. It takes a lot of people just to have church service on a typical Sunday morning, and their participation makes our community stronger.

Sunday school teachers lead our Christian Education classes. Sunday school helpers are trained and vetted volunteers who assist teachers of children's Sunday school and Little Lambs.

Ushers are parishioners who greet people as they arrive at church, distribute bulletins, and assist newcomers with knowing what they need to know when they arrive at church on Sunday morning.

Acolytes are parishioners who bring forward various items used in worship-- the crucifer brings the cross and the torch bearers bring the candles-- and assist the priest and other altar servers however they are needed. Acolytes are trained before beginning their service.

Lay Readers are parishioners who read the Epistle and the Prayers of the People.

Chalice Bearers assist the priest by taking the chalice to parishioners during the Eucharist

Lectors are parishioners who read the Old Testament lesson.

Choristers are members of the choir who assist the congregation in singing service music, psalms and hymns. Cantors lead the singing of more complicated music.

The Altar Guild is a group of dedicated parishioners who take care of the altar linens, candles and other objects used in worship each week. Each Sunday, a couple of members of the Altar Guild ensure that the linens appropriate for that liturgical season adorn the altar, lectern and ambo.

The Flower Guild is another group of dedicated parishioners who ensure that there are beautiful flower arrangements on the altar for worship each week. Each Sunday (except during Lent when there are no flowers present), one family from the church sponsors the flower arrangements that flank the cross behind the altar. The donor family may choose to give in honor or in memory of a loved one, if they desire.  Click here to go to the donate page to give flowers for the altar.

Coffee Servers make coffee and lemonade each Sunday after the 10:30 service in the parlor kitchen and clean up afterwards.

If you are a church member and would like to serve in one of these capacities, click on the Members' Page button found on the Membership Page.
