Good Shepherd Gives Record Food to IMI

I Would like to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone that contributed to Interfaith Ministries in August. It was the largest contribution that Interfaith has received in all the years I have been at Church of The Good Shepherd.  336 pounds were given!!!

If you would like to give but don't like to shop please see me.  I have one wonderful parishioner that gives me a check every month.  That week I buy what Interfaith needs and I show her the receipt of what she purchased.  Our need right now is for just about everything.  If you buy it, we need it.  We especially need canned meat, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly. Please don't throw away your plastic bags or paper bags. We double bag before we put the groceries in them, so we always need both.

Thank you all VERY much!

Interfaith Ministries Report

In July we donated 229 pounds of food to Interfaith Ministries! That has to be a record!!!  Thank you all SO very much.  In the summer we give out over 3,000 pounds each month to families in need.

As far as what do we need right now...we need everything.  If you can think of it, we need it.  The main things are: canned meat, all canned vegetables, canned fruit and canned beans.

If you would like to volunteer, we always need volunteers.  If you have two hours a week or every other week, that would be great. 9-11, 11-1 and 1-3PM are the different shifts.  There are several different jobs and I'm sure one of them would be right for you! Call 322-1365 and ask for Mercy or just see me and I will be happy to go with you to introduce you to everyone.

CGS Interfaith Ministries Donations

We gave 77 pounds of food and hygiene items to Interfaith Ministries in the month of June. Thank you all very much. I would also like to thank the very kind and generous person that gave me $40 for Interfaith. I bought 89 cans of green beans and corn! Since it is summer, we usually give out about 3,000 pounds of food each month because the children are at home. So thank you all very much for your generosity!

Interfaith Ministries Canned Vegetables Needs

Interfaith Ministries is in need of canned vegetables. With the children home from school many more families come in the summer asking for help with groceries. There is a great sale on right now at Cash Saver on SW Parkway. If you buy green beans, corn and peas, they are only 3 cans for 99 cents! (Of course they add on 10% at the register) This sale is from Wednesday, July 13 until Tuesday, July 19. If you want to take them directly to IMI you can go M-F 9-10:45. Go to the back door that says "pantry delivery". They are also open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9-2:45. In case you don't know, Interfaith Ministries is just across from the church parking lot at 11th and Austin. When they ask you where your donation is from just say Church of The Good Shepherd! Thank you very much,

Mary Gwin

Interfaith Ministries Seeking Volunteers

Interfaith Ministries is where you go for help in Wichita and Archer Counties if you can't pay your bills or need help with groceries. We do other things depending on the circumstance, such as help with medication, dentures, bus tickets. Last week we had a 92 year-old man come in for help with his denture bill. We did help him with that and also got him groceries. When I met him I was very surprised about his age. He seemed to be in great health and drove himself in a big white pick-up truck that day. My IMI partner and I carried his groceries out to his truck which we rarely do, but were glad to be able to do that. He thanked us over and over telling us how grateful he was for all we did for him. When we got to his truck he told us that he was in WWII and asked us if we wanted to see some pictures. We looked through his photo album of WWII and he pointed out which soldier he was. It's people like this that make Interfaith Ministries a wonderful place to volunteer. You never know whose life you are going to touch and who you are going to meet. If you would like to volunteer please call Mercy at 322-1365 or just talk to me and I will be happy to go with you and introduce you to everyone.
